Diet

• Individuals are generally encountered on shrubs, grasses and herbaceous plants, where they hunt insects or wait in ambush.

• Around Zihua, suitable habitat includes tropical deciduous forest, thorn scrub, forest edges, gardens, agricultural fields and roadside vegetation.

• It may be particularly noticeable in sunny, open areas supporting flowering plants and diverse insect populations.

Size

• Zelus grassans is a medium-sized assassin bug, with adults generally measuring approximately 12–18 mm long.

• Like other Zelus, it has a slender body, long legs, elongated head and strongly developed piercing beak.

• Colouration is variable but commonly includes reddish-brown, brown, orange and darker markings, helping individuals blend with stems and foliage.
