SUPERFAMILY PAPILIONOIDEA
Marius Hairstreak
Rekoa marius
The Marius Hairstreak (Rekoa marius) is a small but striking butterfly belonging to the family Lycaenidae (Gossamer-winged Butterflies) and the subfamily Theclinae (Hairstreaks). It is known for its sleek grayish coloration, and distinctive markings. It has short, thin tails on the hindwings, resembling antennae. These tails, along with the false eye spots, help confuse predators by diverting attacks away from the head.
