The Purplish-black Skipper (Nisoniades rubescens), also known as the Purplish Tufted-Skipper, is a small, skipper butterfly with a wingspan of approximately 1 to 1.4 inches (2.5–3.7 cm). Its upperside is characterized by a mottled brown coloration. This species is primarily found in tropical lowlands, with a range extending from Brazil northward through Central America to Northern Mexico. Unlike many other skippers that feed on grasses, the larvae of the Purplish-black Skipper specialize in wild morning glories (Ipomoea).
