Genus Nisoniades is a historical genus of skipper butterflies in the family Hesperiidae that was traditionally used for a group of duskywing skippers but has largely been absorbed into the genus Erynnis under modern taxonomy. These butterflies are generally small to medium-sized, with dark brown or grey-brown wings marked by subtle pale spots and mottled patterns that provide excellent camouflage against bark, rocks, and leaf litter. They are strong, fast fliers that inhabit open woodlands, forest edges, grasslands, scrublands, and tropical dry forests. Adults commonly visit flowers, mud puddles, and other sources of minerals, while the caterpillars feed on a variety of plants, particularly legumes and oaks, depending on the species.
