The West-Mexican Sootywing (Staphylus tierra) is a small, dark skipper butterfly primarily found in the western regions of Mexico. It belongs to the family Hesperiidae (skippers). Like most members of the Staphylus genus, it is a small, dark brown or blackish butterfly. Its primary distribution is along the western coast of Mexico, spanning from Sonora south to Chiapas.
