​Genus Staphylus is one of the largest genera of spread-wing skippers in the family Hesperiidae. These small to medium-sized butterflies are typically brown, gray-brown, or dark chocolate in color, often marked with subtle pale spots, scalloped wing margins, or mottled patterns that provide excellent camouflage against bark, rocks, and dead leaves. Unlike many skippers that hold their wings at an angle, Staphylus species usually rest with their wings spread flat. They inhabit a wide variety of habitats, including tropical dry forests, thorn scrub, woodland edges, grasslands, deserts, and disturbed areas.
