White Morpho
Morpho polyphemus
The White Morpho (Morpho polyphemus) is a dazzling butterfly in the Nymphalidae family, renowned for its shimmering white wings and large size. The upper side of the wings is pearly white, often exhibiting a subtle sheen or iridescence in the sunlight. The underside is brownish with eye-like spots (ocelli) on both forewings and hindwings, serving as a defense mechanism to startle predators. Known for its graceful, gliding flight, the White Morpho can often be seen flying slowly near the forest canopy or closer to the ground along paths.
