The genus Dione is a group of brightly colored butterflies within the family Nymphalidae and the subfamily Heliconiinae. Species of Dione are distributed throughout the Americas, ranging from the southern United States through Central America, and much of South America. These butterflies are generally medium-sized and are recognized by their vivid orange to orange-brown upper wings marked with black spots and lines, while the undersides often display intricate patterns with silvery markings. Adults are active daytime fliers that frequent open habitats, forest edges, gardens, roadsides, and disturbed areas, where they feed on flower nectar and serve as important pollinators.
