FRITILLARIES & LONGWING BUTTERFLIES - TRIBES

Subfamily Heliconiinae is a subfamily of brush-footed butterflies within the family Nymphalidae, comprising the longwings, passion-vine butterflies, and their relatives. Heliconiines are typically recognized by their elongated wings, bright warning coloration, and intricate patterns of red, orange, yellow, black, and white. Many species participate in Müllerian mimicry complexes, in which multiple unpalatable species share similar color patterns to reinforce predator avoidance.
