The genus Libytheana is a small group of distinctive butterflies within the family Nymphalidae commonly known as the snouts,. These butterflies are easily recognized by their unusually elongated labial palps, which project forward from the head and create the appearance of a long snout. Libytheana species inhabit woodlands, forest edges, scrublands, river corridors, and gardens. Their wings are typically mottled brown, orange, black, and white, providing excellent camouflage among dead leaves and bark when at rest.
