Order Passeriformes is the largest and most diverse order of birds, commonly known as the perching birds or songbirds, comprising more than half of all bird species worldwide. Members of this order are found in virtually every terrestrial habitat on Earth, from tropical rainforests and deserts to tundra, mountains, and urban environments. They are characterized by an anisodactyl foot arrangement, with three toes pointing forward and one backward, which allows them to perch securely on branches and other surfaces. While the order includes an enormous variety of forms, most passerines are relatively small to medium-sized birds with well-developed vocal abilities.
