Genus Autochton is a genus of medium-sized skipper butterflies in the family Hesperiidae, distributed from the southern United States and Mexico through Central America and into South America. These butterflies are generally dark brown to black with distinctive bands or spots of yellow, orange, or pale cream that contrast sharply with the darker wing background. They are powerful, fast-flying insects typically found in tropical forests, woodland edges, secondary growth, and tropical dry forest habitats. Adults frequently visit flowers for nectar and often perch on leaves in sunny openings.
