Order Caprimulgiformes is a group of primarily nocturnal and crepuscular birds that includes nightjars, nighthawks, potoos, and related species. These birds are found across much of the world and are especially adapted for hunting flying insects in low-light conditions. Members of the order typically possess large eyes for enhanced night vision, cryptically patterned plumage that provides excellent camouflage, short bills with exceptionally wide mouths, and long wings suited for agile flight. During the day, many species rest motionless on the ground, branches, or tree stumps, blending remarkably well with their surroundings.
