Genus Battus is a genus of large, elegant swallowtail butterflies in the subfamily Papilioninae of the family Papilionidae. Distributed throughout the Americas from the southern United States and Mexico to South America and the Caribbean, Battus species are commonly known as pipevine swallowtails. They are characterized by their dark black, brown, or iridescent blue-green wings, often accented with red, orange, yellow, or cream-coloured spots on the hindwings. Many species lack the long tails typical of other swallowtails, but their graceful flight and striking coloration make them easily recognizable.
