Genus Urbanus is a genus of large, fast-flying skipper butterflies in the family Hesperiidae, distributed from the southern United States and Mexico through Central America, the Caribbean, and much of South America. Members of this genus are easily recognized by their streamlined bodies, long pointed wings, and in many species, elongated hindwing tails that give them a distinctive swallowtail-like appearance. Their coloration is typically dark brown to black, often highlighted by iridescent blue-green scaling, pale spots, or metallic reflections. Urbanus species inhabit tropical forests, woodland edges, gardens, agricultural areas, and tropical dry forests, where adults are powerful fliers that frequently visit flowers for nectar.
