Genus Polites is a genus of small to medium-sized grass skippers in the family Hesperiidae, distributed widely across North America, Mexico, and parts of Central America. Members of this genus are typically orange, yellow-orange, or brown with darker borders and markings, giving many species a warm, tawny appearance. Like other skippers, they have compact bodies, hooked antennae, and a rapid, low-flying, darting flight. Polites species are closely associated with grasslands, meadows, marshes, roadsides, pastures, and other open habitats where adults visit flowers for nectar and often perch on grass stems.
