The infraorder Gerromorpha is a group of true bugs within the order Hemiptera that is specially adapted for life on or near the surface of freshwater habitats. Commonly known as the semi-aquatic bugs, members of this infraorder are found worldwide on ponds, lakes, marshes, slow-moving streams, and other aquatic environments. Gerromorphs possess a variety of adaptations that allow them to exploit the water surface, including water-repellent body hairs, elongated legs, and lightweight bodies that enable many species to walk or skate across the surface film without breaking it.
