Genus Caulerpa is a widely distributed genus of marine green algae belonging to the family Caulerpaceae within the class Ulvophyceae. Species of Caulerpa are remarkable for their siphonous organization, in which the entire thallus consists of a single giant multinucleate cell that can grow to considerable size and develop structures resembling roots, stems, and leaves. These algae are commonly found in tropical and subtropical seas, growing on sandy bottoms, coral reefs, seagrass beds, and rocky substrates. The fronds exhibit a wide variety of shapes, ranging from feather-like and grape-like forms to flat, blade-like structures, depending on the species.
