Subfamily Apaturinae is a subfamily of brush-footed butterflies within the family Nymphalidae, commonly known as the emperors. Members of this group are generally medium- to large-sized butterflies recognized for their strong flight, striking wing patterns, and, in many species, iridescent coloration that can produce vivid blue, purple, or metallic reflections. The subfamily is distributed primarily throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, inhabiting forests, woodlands, river corridors, and other areas where their larval host plants occur.
