Flowers by Colour
Physalis ampla, commonly referred to as groundcherries, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas and is known for its distinctive lantern-like husks, which enclose its small, edible fruits. The flowers are typically yellow with dark purple or brown markings at the base of the petals. The fruit is a small, round berry that develops inside an inflated, papery husk (calyx), resembling a lantern. This husk starts green and turns brown as it matures.
