Class Magnoliopsida (commonly known as the dicotyledons or dicots) is a major group of flowering plants characterized by embryos with two seed leaves (cotyledons). Traditionally, Magnoliopsida included a vast diversity of plants such as roses, oaks, maples, sunflowers, beans, and buttercups. Typical features of dicots include broad leaves with net-like venation, flower parts usually arranged in multiples of four or five, vascular bundles arranged in a ring within the stem, and a taproot system. Members of this class occupy nearly every terrestrial habitat on Earth and range from tiny annual herbs to massive forest trees.
