SUPERORDER ELOPOMORPHA

Superorder Elopomorpha is an ancient and diverse group of ray-finned fishes that includes eels & tarpons and their relatives.  Elopomorphs occur in marine, estuarine, and freshwater environments throughout the world, with some species undertaking remarkable migrations between oceanic and inland habitats. Eels are elongated predators and scavengers that often inhabit reefs, rivers, and coastal waters.
