Ray-finned Fishes of Zihuatanejo

CLASS ACTINOPTERYGII

Class Actinopterygii comprises the ray-finned fishes, by far the largest and most diverse class of vertebrates, containing more than 35,000 living species and representing over half of all known vertebrate species. Members of this class are characterized by fins supported by flexible bony rays rather than the fleshy, lobed fins of lobe-finned fishes. They occupy virtually every aquatic habitat on Earth.
