Burrito Grunt
Anisotremus interruptus
The Burrito Grunt, locally known as Burro Bacoco, is a coastal marine fish in the grunt family (Haemulidae). It has a moderately deep, elongated body with a silvery to grayish coloration, often marked by faint darker bars or mottling along the sides and a slightly yellowish tint on the fins. Like other grunts, it can produce audible grunting sounds by rubbing its pharyngeal teeth, especially when stressed. Burrito Grunts inhabit shallow to moderate-depth waters over sandy or muddy bottoms, rocky areas, and near reefs, frequently entering estuaries and coastal lagoons. They are mainly nocturnal feeders, preying on benthic invertebrates such as crustaceans, worms, and small mollusks.
