Stone Scorpionfish
Scorpaena mystes
The Stone Scorpionfish (Scorpaena mystes), also known as the Pacific Spotted Scorpionfish, is a master of camouflage. Typically mottled in shades of brown, gray, red, and beige, allowing them to blend seamlessly with rocks, coral, and sandy bottoms. They are sit-and-wait predators, relying on their excellent camouflage to ambush unsuspecting prey. More active during nighttime when they venture out to hunt.
