The subfamily Photurinae is a group of fireflies, which are members of the family Lampyridae. Fireflies are known for their bioluminescence, which is primarily used for communication, especially during mating rituals. The larvae of Photurinae are often predatory, feeding on soft-bodied insects and possibly other firefly larvae.
