Proxys punctulatus, commonly called the black stink bug, is a species of shield bug in the family Pentatomidae. It is characterized by a dark, often glossy black or deep greenish-black body, sometimes with a subtle metallic sheen, and the typical broad, shield-shaped form of stink bugs. Like other pentatomids, it has a large triangular scutellum, well-developed wings, and produces a strong defensive odour from scent glands when disturbed. Proxys punctulatus feeds using a piercing-sucking rostrum, extracting fluids from plants, seeds, and developing fruits.
