Loxa is a genus of stink bugs in the family Pentatomidae, commonly recognized for their bright green, shield-shaped bodies and strong defensive odor. These bugs have a broad, somewhat triangular form with a large central plate (the scutellum) and well-developed wings, giving them the classic “shield bug” appearance. Species of Loxa are typically plant feeders, using a piercing-sucking rostrum to extract juices from leaves, stems, fruits, and seeds. Their coloration helps them blend into foliage, making them less visible to predators. When disturbed, they release a characteristic odor from scent glands, which acts as a chemical defense.
