The Crimson Patch (Chlosyne janais) is a striking butterfly in the Nymphalidae family and the Heliconiinae subfamily. Its bold red markings and contrasting black wings make it a standout in its native habitats. The upper side of the wings is predominantly black with a bright crimson-red patch on the hindwings and white spots on the forewings. The underside of the hindwings is light brown or tan with intricate white patterns, providing camouflage when resting.
