Montezuma's Cattleheart
Parides montezuma
Parides montezuma, the Montezuma's cattleheart, is a butterfly in the family Papilionidae. Upper side: Forewings: Black with a green or bluish sheen near the base, particularly in males. Hindwings: Black with a prominent red patch near the lower edge. The patch varies in size and intensity but is a key distinguishing feature.
Underside: Similar to the upper side, with additional small red spots on the hindwings for camouflage and warning. Body: Black with red markings on the abdomen, consistent with other toxic butterflies.
