-
Electrostrymon hugon, commonly known as the Ruddy Hairstreak, is a small butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It is a delicate species with subtle coloration that is best appreciated up close. The upper side of the wings is typically brown, sometimes with a faint bluish sheen near the base. The underside is more distinctive, showing warm reddish-brown (“ruddy”) tones crossed by fine lines and bands, along with small tail-like projections on the hindwings. Near these tails are tiny eyespots, which help deflect predator attacks away from the butterfly’s body.
