Hypostrymon critola is a species of butterflies in the family gossamer-winged butterflies. Upperside blue; male with large black spot. Underside gray with darker streaks and orange postmedian line. It has delicate tail-like projections, characteristic of hairstreaks, which help divert predator attacks. This species is found in the southwestern United States and Mexico, particularly in dry desert and scrub habitats. Adults are usually seen perching with wings closed, relying on their cryptic underside for camouflage, and may occasionally visit flowers or moisture sources.
