Genus Hypostrymon is a small genus of hairstreak butterflies in the family Lycaenidae, occurring primarily in the Americas from the southern United States and Mexico through Central America and parts of South America. These butterflies are generally small and inconspicuous, with grey, brown, or tan wing coloration that provides excellent camouflage when they rest with their wings closed. Like many hairstreaks, they possess fine hindwing tails and eye-like markings near the tail region, creating a "false head" that can misdirect predator attacks away from the butterfly's vital body parts.
