SUPERFAMILY PAPILIONOIDEA

Tropical Least Skipper

Ancyloxypha arene

Ancyloxypha arene, commonly known as the tropical least skipper, is a very small butterfly in the family Hesperiidae. True to its name, it is tiny and delicate, with a wingspan often under 2 cm, making it one of the smallest skippers in its range. This species is typically bright orange to golden-orange with dark brown borders along the wing edges. Its compact body, relatively large head, and rapid, skipping flight are characteristic of skippers. When at rest, it often perches low on grasses, sometimes with wings partially open.
