Genus Ipidecla is a small genus of hairstreak butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. These butterflies are native to the Neotropical region, occurring primarily in Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America. Like many hairstreaks, Ipidecla species are small, delicate butterflies that often display subtle shades of brown, gray, or metallic blue on the upper wing surfaces, while the undersides bear intricate patterns of fine lines, spots, and bands that provide effective camouflage against bark, leaves, and other natural backgrounds. Many species possess short hindwing tails and eye-like markings that form a "false head," a defensive adaptation that helps divert predator attacks away from the butterfly's true head.
