Tribe Eumaeini is the largest ribe of hairstreak butterflies within the family Lycaenidae. Members of this tribe are generally small butterflies characterized by delicate hindwing tails, intricate wing patterns, and eye-like spots near the tails that create a convincing “false head.” This adaptation helps protect the butterfly by directing predator attacks away from vital body parts. Many species display brilliant iridescent blue, green, violet, or copper colouration on the upper wing surfaces, while the undersides often bear finely detailed lines and markings that provide excellent camouflage.
