The genus Nica is a small group of Neotropical butterflies within the family Nymphalidae. Species of Nica are found from Mexico and Central America through much of tropical South America, inhabiting rainforests, forest edges, secondary growth, and shaded woodland habitats. These butterflies are generally medium-sized and are recognized by their distinctive wing patterns, which often combine shades of orange, brown, black, cream, and white in intricate bands and patches. The undersides of the wings are usually more subdued and cryptically patterned, helping them blend into dead leaves and tree bark when at rest.
