​The genus Myscelia is a group of medium-sized, brightly colored butterflies within the family Nymphalidae. Found from Mexico through Central America and into much of tropical South America, Myscelia butterflies inhabit forests, woodland edges, river corridors, and tropical clearings. They are best known for their striking upper-wing coloration, which often includes brilliant metallic blue, violet, or iridescent patches contrasted with black borders and white markings. The undersides are usually mottled brown and grey, providing excellent camouflage when the butterflies rest on tree trunks or among dead leaves.
