Tropical Brushfoot Butterflies of Zihuatanejo

TRIBE CATONEPHELINI

CATONEPHELINI - TROPICAL BRUSHFOOTS - GENUSES

Tribe Catonephelini is a tribe of brush-footed butterflies within the subfamily Biblidinae of the family Nymphalidae. Members of this tribe are primarily distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, where they inhabit rainforests, woodland edges, secondary forests, and other forested environments. These butterflies are often medium-sized and display marked sexual dimorphism, with males and females frequently exhibiting strikingly different wing colours and patterns. Many species possess bold combinations of black, orange, yellow, white, or blue markings that make them among the more conspicuous butterflies of Neotropical forests.
