Tribe Ageroniini is a tribe of brush-footed butterflies primarily distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas and are best known for the genus Hamadryas, whose species are commonly called cracker butterflies because males produce distinctive clicking or cracking sounds during territorial and courtship displays. Generally medium-sized and exhibit cryptic wing patterns of grey, brown, black, and blue that closely resemble tree bark, providing excellent camouflage when resting on trunks and branches. Adults are often found perched head-down on trees, where they feed on sap, fermenting fruit, and other nutrient-rich substances rather than relying primarily on flower nectar.
