The genus Dryas is a small genus of brush-footed butterflies within the family Nymphalidae. The genus contains a single living species, Dryas iulia, one of the most distinctive and widespread butterflies of the American tropics. Found from the southern United States through Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and much of South America, the Julia Butterfly inhabits open woodlands, forest edges, gardens, roadsides, and disturbed habitats. It is easily recognized by its long, narrow wings and brilliant orange coloration, which give it a graceful and elegant appearance in flight. Males are typically brighter orange, while females often display darker markings and more subdued coloration.
