Subfamily Libytheinae, commonly known as the snout butterflies, is a small and distinctive subfamily within the family Nymphalidae. Members of Libytheinae are easily recognized by their elongated labial palps, which project forward from the head and give the appearance of a pronounced snout. These butterflies are generally medium-sized and possess angular wings that often display cryptic brown, orange, and white patterns, allowing them to blend in with dead leaves and bark when at rest.
