Tribe Brassolini is a tribe of butterflies within the subfamily Satyrinae of the family Nymphalidae, commonly known as the owl butterflies and their relatives. Found primarily in the tropical forests of Central and South America. They are best known for the prominent eye-like markings on the undersides of their wings, which resemble the eyes of owls and serve as a defensive adaptation to startle or deter predators. Most brassolines are crepuscular or nocturnal, being most active at dawn, dusk, or during overcast conditions.
