Subfamily Satyrinae is a large and diverse subfamily of brush-footed butterflies within the family Nymphalidae, commonly known as the satyrs, browns, and ringlets. Comprising more than 2,500 species worldwide, members of Satyrinae are typically characterized by brown, tan, grey, or orange coloration and the presence of eye-like spots (ocelli) on their wings, which help deter predators. These butterflies are found in a wide variety of habitats, including grasslands, forests, wetlands, mountain meadows, and woodland edges, with many species particularly associated with grassy environments.
