Genus Perichares is a genus of medium-sized grass skippers in the family Hesperiidae, distributed from the southern United States and Mexico through Central America, the Caribbean, and much of South America. These butterflies are typically dark brown to black with relatively plain wing patterns, sometimes accented by faint pale spots or subtle markings. Like other skippers, they have stout bodies, hooked antennae, and a rapid, powerful flight. Perichares species are commonly associated with grasslands, forest edges, tropical dry forests, agricultural areas, gardens, and disturbed habitats, where adults frequently visit flowers for nectar and often fly low over vegetation.
