GENUS ADELPHA
-
Sisters (Genus Adelpha)
The genus Adelpha is a diverse group of medium-sized butterflies within the family Nymphalidae, commonly known as the sister butterflies. Adelpha butterflies are found primarily in the Neotropics, ranging from the southern United States through Mexico, Central America, and much of South America. They are especially diverse in tropical forests, cloud forests, and montane regions. Members of the genus are readily recognized by their striking wing patterns, which typically feature dark brown or black backgrounds crossed by bold white, cream, orange, or reddish bands.
