Brown Algae of Zihuatanejo

FAMILY DICTYOTACEAE

Family Dictyotaceae is a diverse family of brown algae within the class Phaeophyceae, consisting primarily of marine species that inhabit tropical and temperate coastal waters around the world. Members of this family are typically characterized by flattened, ribbon-like, or fan-shaped thalli that often exhibit regular branching patterns and a distinctive dichotomous (forked) growth form. Many species grow attached to rocks, coral reefs, or other hard substrates in shallow waters where sunlight is abundant.
