GENUS ABAEIS
-
Genus Abaeis
Genus Abaeis is a small genus of sulphur butterflies in the subfamily Coliadinae of the family Pieridae, best known for the widespread Sleepy Orange. These medium-sized butterflies are easily recognized by their bright orange upper wings bordered with dark brown or black and their beautifully patterned undersides, which often resemble dead leaves and provide excellent camouflage when the wings are closed. Abaeis species inhabit open woodlands, grasslands, roadsides, gardens, agricultural areas, and tropical dry forests, where adults are active fliers that frequently visit flowers for nectar.
