Subfamily Coliadinae comprises the sulphurs and yellows, a widespread and abundant group within the family Pieridae. Found on every continent except Antarctica, Coliadinae includes more than 300 species of butterflies that are typically characterized by bright yellow, orange, gold, greenish-yellow, or white wing coloration, often accented with black borders or spots. These butterflies are strong, active fliers and are among the most commonly encountered species in grasslands, meadows, deserts, agricultural fields, forest edges, roadsides, and tropical habitats.
