Genus Nascus is a genus of medium-sized skipper butterflies in the family Hesperiidae, distributed from Mexico and Central America through much of tropical South America. Members of this genus are typically dark brown to black with distinctive white, cream, or translucent spots and bands on their wings. They possess the stout bodies, hooked antennae, and swift, powerful flight characteristic of skippers. Nascus species are most commonly encountered in tropical forests, woodland edges, secondary growth, and tropical dry forests, where adults visit flowers for nectar and often perch on foliage in sunny openings. The caterpillars feed on various monocotyledonous plants and construct protective shelters by folding leaves together with silk.
